Not all LED masks are created equal. Follow my 5 top tips to make sure you’re buying a quality home device AND using it effectively.
1) Red and Near Infrared light is all you need. At present there is not enough research to suggest any other colours have any effect on the skin.
2) Lightwaves are measured in nanometers. Over 3000 peer reviewed studies have shown that red light at 633 nanometers and near-infrared at 830 nanometers is the MOST effective. Ensure your chosen device emits the correct nanometers. If it doesn’t specify these exact numbers, walk away and save your cash!
3) Face masks are calibrated to work with nothing between your skin and the mask. I personally do not use any products or even clear masks as this will block the lightwaves getting to the correct layers of skin.
4) To work well and get results you actually have to use it a MINIMUM of 3 times a week. Yes you read that correctly! Studies show that the effects of LED on the skin last for up to 72 hours. If you’re looking for the long-term effects of more hydration, less pigmentation and fewer wrinkles, you should be treating the skin 3 times a week for at least 3 months, so bear this commitment in mind.
5) You need great skin care too! LED is not a stand-alone treatment and works best used alongside excellent physiologically correct skin care and fastidious sun protection. I can recommend using my Dermaviduals skincare range along with broad spectrum SPF50 every single day of the year. Yes you also read THAT correctly. Whilst you may not think you are in danger of burning your skin in a British winter, the UV rays responsible for ageing penetrate much deeper into the skin layers and are present in any electronic device with a screen (including the one on which you are reading this) so you need protection! Every. Single. Day!
